MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Following an incredible 47-17 victory over first place Davidson, a pair of Morehead State football student-athletes have been honored as Pioneer Football League Players of the Week.
Redshirt freshman quarterback
Bryce Patterson is the Offensive Player of the Week and sophomore defensive back
Kaleb Lyons was awarded Defensive Player of the Week.
Making his first career start, Patterson (Versailles, Ky.) threw six touchdowns, tying for most in the FCS this season while being the most by a PFL quarterback this season. It was just one short of the MSU single-game record of seven set in 1990 by Chris Swartz.
Patterson needed just 10 completions for his six touchdowns and passed for 240 yards. Each of his six touchdowns went for 25-plus yards, including three scoring connections to wide receiver
Ryan Upp.
Lyons (Antioch, Tenn.) picked off three passes, tying the PFL and MSU single-game record. His first two interceptions came deep in Davidson territory in the second quarter and helped set up Morehead State touchdowns in a 26-point quarter.
Lyons nabbed his third interception in the fourth quarter just on the MSU side of the field, which led to the Eagles' final touchdown. He also had four tackles, including a sack to force a Davidson punt in the second quarter. Lyons now has an FCS-best six interceptions this year, tied with teammate
Jihad McCall.
