THE ANALYST STORY

MOREHEAD, Ky. --
Morehead State football secured a trio of additional awards Monday for its big Saturday win over Davidson.

Bryce Patterson is the FedEx Ground National Freshman of the Week, while Kaleb Lyons is an Honorable Mention National Defensive Player of the Week. The Eagles' win garnered them an Honorable Mention National Team of the Week accolade.

Making his first career start, Patterson (Versailles, Ky.) threw six touchdowns, tying for most in the FCS this season while being the most by a PFL quarterback this season. It was just one short of the MSU single-game record of seven set in 1990 by Chris Swartz. Patterson needed just 10 completions for his six touchdowns and passed for 240 yards.

Lyons (Antioch, Tenn.) picked off three passes, tying the PFL and MSU single-game record. His first two interceptions came deep in Davidson territory in the second quarter and helped set up Morehead State touchdowns in a 26-point quarter. Lyons nabbed his third interception in the fourth quarter just on the MSU side of the field, which led to the Eagles' final touchdown. He also had four tackles, including a sack to force a Davidson punt in the second quarter.

The Eagles knocked off the Wildcats 47-17, knocking Davidson from first place in the PFL. MSU held the nation's leading scoring team 28 points below its season average. It was MSU's first win over Davidson in the last four meetings.
