MOREHEAD, Ky. – Veronica Charles has earned a trifecta of conference honors, alongside a Second-Team distinction for
Sandra Lin, the league announced Tuesday.
Sandra Lin, who transferred from Georgia Highlands College, finished the season leading the Eagles in both minutes played, as well as assists. Her 148 assists was the second most in the conference this season, and was the eight most in a single season in Morehead State history. Lin is now the 25th Eagle to secure a spot on the All-OVC Second Team.
Veronica Charles has earned a spot on the All-OVC First-Team, All-Newcomer Team, and is the Defensive Player of the Year. She is the second ever Morehead State player to be recognized at the league's top defensive player, and is only the third player in OVC history, and the first since 2013, to be recognized for all three honors. This is also the fifth consecutive year Morehead State has had a representative on the All-Newcomer Team.
Charles averaged 13.3 points per game and posted 21 double-digit scoring performances, including nine straight to end the regular season. Her 165 total rebounds led the team, and she was the only player in the OVC this season to post at least 100 rebounds, 50 assists, and 50 steals.
The Nigerian native, who transferred in from Stony Brook, recorded 87 steals this season, which led the conference and is the second most steals recorded in a season from any Morehead State player, male or female, in school history. Charles also was consistently ranked in the top-10 nationally in total steals, currently sitting at 8th in the country.
The duo now look to lead the Eagles at the OVC Tournament, tipping off against fifth seeded UT Martin Wednesday afternoon.
