MOREHEAD, Ky. -- For the third time this season, a member of the Morehead State baseball team has garnered OVC Player of the Week honors.
Ryley Preece, the current OVC leader in home runs, led Morehead State to a big series win over OVC rival Tennessee Tech over the weekend, and was rewarded with his third career OVC Player of the Week award on Monday.
On Sunday, which marked the one year anniversary of his first career three-home run game (4/2/22 vs. Tennessee Tech), Preece exploded at the plate in game one, going 4-4 with two home runs and five RBI -- his second five RBI game of the season. His two-run blast in the eighth inning put the game out of reach and allowed the Eagles to win 10-7 and even up the series. In game two, he sent a three-run homer over the right field fence for his OVC-leading 12th home run of the season, giving Morehead State a 4-1 lead the Eagles never lost on the way to a series-clinching victory.
Preece opened the week with one of his three multi-hit performances, going 2-4 and scoring twice vs. Eastern Kentucky. In the series opener vs. Tennessee Tech on Saturday night, the Paintsville, Ky., native smacked a pair of doubles and drove in three in the loss. He now leads the team in home runs (12), RBI (28), runs scored (33), and total bases (78), and is second in batting average with a .317 mark.
He is the third different Eagle to win the award this season, joining
Chase Vinson and
Jackson Feltner.
John Bakke won the lone Pitcher of the Week award for MSU last week.
Morehead State returns to action Tuesday at Ohio, before coming back to Allen Field for a three-game set with Canisius beginning on Thursday.
