MOREHEAD, Ky. – Matilda Soderlund, a 5-foot-6 guard hailing from Stockholm, Sweden, brings her three point shooting ability to the Morehead State Women's Basketball program.
"Matilda comes from one of the most respected JUCO's in the country and played for one of the best coaches. She is the ultimate competitor that can really shoot it," head coach
Cayla Petree said.
The Swedish native spent the past two seasons at South Plains College (Levelland, Texas), where she played under head coach Ara Baten.
Soderlund, who averaged 7.2 points per game at South Plains College, is a three point specialist, who poured in over 50 percent of her offense from beyond the arc. She held a 33.3 shooting percentage from three point range in her collegiate career, and led the team in three point percentage last season.
Soderlund showed off her flair for the dramatic this season in the semifinals of the Region V Tournament, where she knocked down a game tying three pointer in double overtime against eleventh ranked McLennan Community College, spurring her team to a 69-67 victory and leading her squad to their fourth consecutive Region V Tournament Championship appearance.
Soderlund touched double figure scoring on 13 occasions this past season, including a career-high 22 point outburst in January, on the strength of six three pointers.
"I am excited for her to get to campus and help our team take the next step in building our program," Petree added.
