MOREHEAD, Ky. --The Morehead State Eagles got a big game out of junior Ryley Preece, who collected two extra base hits in a 13-3 loss to the Eastern Kentucky Colonels Wednesday.
Sophomore Will Grimmett (2-2) got the ball to start for Morehead State (27-17) and took the loss.
Preece's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-4 day, and included two doubles. Junior Roman Kuntz furnished a standout effort as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Junior Logan Castleman also chipped in for the Eagles, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a triple and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0, the Eagles first put runs on the board in the second inning. Morehead State put up two runs in the frame, highlighted by an RBI triple off the bat of Castleman.
The Eagles deficit expanded to 8-2 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the fifth inning. Morehead State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Kuntz, which brought the score to 8-3 in favor of the Colonels. The Eagles were unable to get any closer, as Eastern Kentucky added five runs to their tally on the way to a 13-3 final.
