MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Newly hired Morehead State Football Head Coach Jason Woodman has added the first two assistant coaches to his staff as Travis Everhart and Kyle Weiss head to MSU after serving on Woodman's staff at Fairmont State.
Everhart will lead the Eagle offensive lineman, while Weiss will coach wide receivers and be the recruiting coordinator.
Everhart was the head coach and offensive coordinator at Alderson-Broaddus (W.Va.) for four seasons before transitioning to Fairmont for the 2023 season.
In 2023, he led the Fairmont offensive line and helped the team to an 8-3 record. His offensive line unit paved the way for FSU to rank high in the Mountain East Conference in a number of stats categories, including first in rushing touchdowns, third in scoring offense, third in overall TDs and fifth in sacks allowed.
From 2022 to 2023, Fairmont increased its stats output in eight major categories. Everhart coached a First-Team All-MEC left tackle and an Honorable Mention All-MECÂ guard. Overall, four different offensive players received All-MEC honors.
During his four-year stint at A-B, the Battlers had 62 student-athletes recognized as All-Academic MEC. He coached several athletes who earned All-MEC honors, even during a shortened four-game season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prior to A-B, Everhart had two stints at Fort Valley (Ga.), where he coached during the 2016, 2018 and 2019 campaigns. Serving a number of positions on both sides of the line of scrimmage, including as associate head coach, Everhart coached the 2019 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year Demetrius Harris - who also earned numerous All-American honors. In 2016, he helped Fort Valley to an SIAC championship.
During the 2017 season, Everhart was the co-offensive coordinator and assistant head coach at West Virginia State. WVSU posted its first winning record since 2008 and ranked No. 1 in Division II in red-zone offense as well as in the top 25 nationally in seven other stats categories. WVSU also established 10 season program records.
From 2013-15, Everhart was special teams coordinator, tight ends/fullbacks and wide receivers coach at Charleston (W.Va.). Charleston finished ranked 15th in the nation in Division II and earned a playoff berth for the first time in program history, winning 10 games. Charleston's punter, Brett Benes, became the first UC player to earn AFCA Coaches' All-American honors. He also signed John Cominsky, who eventually was named MEC Defensive Player of the Year, and currently is a defensive end for the NFL's Detroit Lions.
Everhart spent the 2012 season as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Point (Ga.), which followed a two-year stint (2010-2011) at West Virginia Tech where he was the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. There, he coached All-American Troy White, who went on to play in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In addition, Everhart also held coaching positions at Kent State (2009), Hiram (Ohio) (2007, 2008), Louisburg (N.C.) (2006), South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (2005), Tiffin (Ohio) (2002, 2003), California (Pa.) (2000, 2001) and Capital (Ohio) (1999). He was also head coach at Unioto High School in Chillicothe, Ohio in 2004.
Throughout his 24 years of coaching, Everhart has coached seven All-Americans, eight all-region performers, 38 all-conference selections, two conference players of the year, and 47 all-academic team selections. Everhart has also had nine players that he has coached and or recruited that have gone on to play in the NFL.
Everhart was a four-year starter at nose tackle and long snapper for Capital (Ohio). He received the prestigious Crusader Award, which is given to the player who best represents the characteristics of a champion on and off the football field. He earned his bachelor's degree in elementary education from Capital, graduating in 1999. He earned his Master's Degree in 2001 from California (Pa.).
Everhart is originally from Frankfort, Ohio. He and his wife, Jenna, are the parents of two children, Jon "Mac" McNeill and Kay Elaine.
Weiss most recently joined Woodman at Fairmont following the 2022 season as assistant quarterbacks coach at Pittsburg State (Kan.). At PSU, he helped the Gorillas to a 12-1 mark and the MIAA title.
Prior to PSU, Weiss was the QB ad WR coach at Windermere High School in Florida for the 2021 season.
Weiss went to Florida after a three-year tenure at Minnesota State-Mankato, where helped the Mavericks to a 27-2 record and a national Division II runner-up finish in 2019 as well as helping lead MSU-M to the national semifinals in 2018. He coached two-time All-American wide receiver Shane Zylstra.Â
During the 2017 season, Weiss served as student assistant and director of video at South Dakota. He also was an assistant coach for the Arena Football Sioux City Bandits in 2017.
Weiss started his collegiate career at Midland (Neb.) as a QB and graduated with his bachelor's degree from South Dakota in 2017. He is working on his Master's Degree from Pittsburg State.
