MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State Beach Volleyball gave new head coach
Sarah Martin her first home victories Tuesday as the Eagles outlasted visiting McKendree (Ill.) 4-1 and 3-2 in a doubleheader at Giovanni's Breadstick Beach.
MSU improved to 4-2 with the wins, while the Bearcats (a second-year program) slipped to 1-2.
The opener saw the Nos. 4 and 5 pairs for the Eagles stake them to a 2-0 lead.
Landyn Snowden and
Brenna Bommer won in straight sets, 21-14, 21-17 at No. 4. In the fifth pairing,
Amelia Nott and
Lily-Kate Carver persevered for a come-from-behind 2-1 win. The prevailed 13-21, 21-16, 17-15.
Shea Hefner and
M.E. Hargan clinched the win with a 21-12, 21-12 victory at No. 3 to remain perfect this season.
Irene Wogenstahl and
Bella Marita moved to the No. 2 slot after playing No. 1 opening weekend and secured a straight-set win.
Wogenstahl and Marita actually clinched the second dual for the Eagles. Tied 2-2, the Eagle pair cruised to a 21-4, 21-12 win to seal the 3-2 triumph.
Hefner and Hargan improved to 6-0 with a 21-9, 21-14 win at No. 3. The pair has now won all of their sets in the six matches. Snowden and Bommer claimed the final win for MSU, getting past their opponent 21-12, 21-13 at No. 4.
MSU is idle now until the first OVC weekend, set for March 22-23 at Chattanooga.There they'll face each of the other league foes except Tennessee Tech.
