Morehead, Ky.-- A long scoring run by Lindenwood to end the first half proved to be fatal to Morehead State women's basketball team and the Eagles fell to Lindenwood 73-51 Saturday in Johnson Arena.
Morehead State (7-11, 2-6 OVC) got a free throw by Kuryn Brunson to get the Eagles within three at 19-3 with 5:03 to go in the first half. Lindenwood (10-7, 6-2 OVC) then went on an extended run, outscoring Morehead State 19-3 and led at the intermission 41-22.
In the first half, MSU shot just 28% from the floor, and committed 12 turnovers leading to 12 points off turnovers for the Lions. Lindenwood also held a 9-0 advantage in fast break points.
Morehead State was led in scoring with Harley Paynter with 11 points and added six rebounds. Brunson finished with nine points and pulled down six rebounds. Maia Rosarion led the Eagles with seven rebounds (tied for game honors); she also added six points.
Lindenwood came out firing in the third quarter, shooting 9-15 (60%) from the floor, while the Eagles shot just 5-18 (28%). The Lions led 63-37 heading to the final 10 minutes. The Eagles were able to out-score Lindenwood 14-10 in the final frame.
Lindenwood placed five players in double figures, led by Gracie Wernli with 15 points. Ellie Brueggemann and Mykayla Cunningham had 13 apiece. Mya Skoff finished with 12 and Brooke Coffey had 10 and pulled down seven rebounds, tied with Rosarion game honors.
