Morehead, Ky, -- The Morehead State women's basketball team managed just seven points in the third quarter and fell to Southern Indiana 72-52 Tuesday night in Johnson Arena.
Morehead State (7-13/2-9 OVC) trailed 15-11 after the opening quarter. In the second frame, the Eagles shot 9-16 (56%) from the field and outscored Southern Indiana (16-6/8-3 OVC) 23-20 to go into the half down 35-34. Both teams shot 50% from the field in the half. USI shot seven of eight from the free throw line, while MSU hit all five of their free throw attempts in the first half.
Southern Indiana turned up the defensive pressure in the third quarter, limiting the Eagles to just three field goals in 12 attempts, outscoring MSU 19-7, and took a 54-41 advantage into the final ten minutes.
The Eagles' shooting woes continued in the final frame, shooting only four for 16 from the field.
The Eagles led by Chrishawn Coleman with 11 points. Katie Dike finished with eight points and a career-high five blocked shots. Aaliyah Holmes also finished with eight points.
Southern Indiana was paced by Meredith Raley with 14 points. Madison Webb finished with 11, and Vanessa Shafford chipped in 11.
