MSU Women Battle, Fall to Tennessee Tech 76-63

Chrishawn Coleman Nets Career-High 18

Morehead, Ky.-- The Morehead State women's basketball team couldn't overcome a scorching third quarter by Tennessee Tech and fell Saturday afternoon 76-63 in Cookeville, Tenn. 

After leading 31-27 at the half, Tennessee Tech (9-4, 3-1 OVC) came roaring out of the intermission, shooting 9-17 (53%) from the floor, including 5-7 (71%) from three-point range. Grad student Peyton Carter led the barrage, scoring 11 of Tech's 26 points in the quarter on four of seven shooting from the floor, including three of five from three-point range.  

Morehead State (6-8, 1-3 OVC) was led by freshman Chrishawn Coleman who posted a new career-high with 18 points. Coleman shot 9-15 (60%) from the floor and recorded three steals. 

Sophomore Kate Novik and redshirt junior Alyssa Berry finished with 11 apiece for the Eagles.  

The teams battled over the first two quarters of a close contest. Tech took a 16-10 edge after the first ten minutes, with a decided edge on the boards, out-rebounding MSU 14-6.

The Eagles bounced back in the second quarter, outscoring TTU 17-15 led by Coleman with six points and Novik with five. The Eagles shot 37% from the field in the first half and went 4-7 (57%) from three-point range. 

After getting out-scored 26-16 in the third quarter, Morehead State bounced back in the final frame, outscoring TTU 20-19 and shooting 47% from the floor. 

Tennessee Tech was led by Payton Carter with 16 points, Keely Carter tossed in 15, Chloe Larry and Reghan Grimes both finished with 11, and Amelia Pfeiffer chipped in 10. 

The Eagles return to action next Thursday when they visit Little Rock. 

BY THE NUMBERS 

  • Morehead State was out-rebounded 48-29. TTU pulled down 17 offensive rebounds leading to a 20-11 advantage in second chance points.  

  • MSU shot 25-64 (39.1%) from the field, including 4-10 (40%) from beyond the arc. TTU went 26-58 (44.8%) from the floor and 9-21 (42.9%) from three-point range.  

  • MSU forced 20 TTU while committing 11. TTU led 13-11 in points off turnovers.  

  • MSU led 44-18 in bench points.
