MOREHEAD, Ky. – Cross Country races at Evansville, Indiana's Angel Mounds State Historic Site course will close at the end of the season, but not before one final edition of the Angel Mounds Invitational, which is co-hosted by the University of Evansville and Ohio Valley Conference member Southern Indiana.

The Morehead State men's and women's teams will make their final appearance at the site which first opened for racing in 2014 on Friday morning when the men take to the 8K course at 10 a.m. ET and the women toe the line for their 6K race at 10:50 a.m. ET.

"It's an open course that will allow the runners to run their race. We'll have a good idea facing some conference foes before we head out to OVC's in a couple of weeks," said MSU head coach Clay Dixon.

The Eagles competed at the meet in 2023, and at the Evansville Invitational in 2021 and 2019, which was also held at Angel Mounds.

Friday's competition will be the third this year for Morehead State, which last ran two weeks ago at the Louisville Cross County Classic, where the women finished 30th and the men were 32nd. It also will be the final race before the Ohio Valley Conference Championships, which will take place on Friday, Oct. 31, in Charleston, Ill.

A total of 20 men's teams and approximately 233 individuals, and 20 women's squads and 186 female participants are entered. Included in that group are six OVC schools, plus former OVC members Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky, Murray State and Western Kentucky; as well as Bellarmine, Cincinnati, IU Indianapolis and Northern Kentucky.

In 2023, MSU's men finished eighth of 18, while the women were seventh of 15. In 2021, the Eagle men were third of four and the women were second of three. In 2019, Morehead State's men were second of seven and the women were first of seven.

Coach Dixon has entered 15 men and 12 women, although not all 27 are expected to race.

The Eagle men will include freshman Josh Arnett, junior Brady Baker, sophomore Weston Blair, sophomore Brody Coleman, freshman Kyle Crady, freshman Lance Garner, sophomore Preston Glassco, sophomore AJ Hawkins, sophomore Carter Lamb, graduate student Aidan Massey, sophomore Liam Parido, sophomore Ryan Richendollar, junior Keghan Thompson, junior Garrett West and junior Aidan Whitsell.

The Eagle women's lineup will feature junior Taylor Allen, junior Lani Baskett, redshirt junior Lydia Bauer, senior Christiana Brittian, sophomore Meredith Campbell, freshman Josey Corbin, freshman Sydney Filippazzo, junior Adi Fuller, freshman Addison Hill, senior Kaylyn Holman and freshman Peyton Lunsford.

A handful of the MSU entrants ran at the 2023 meet, including Allen (39th in 22:24.1), Brittian (74th in 24:06.6) and Holman (167th, did not finish) in the women's race; and Thompson (118th in 28:37.1), West (121st in 28:39.3), Whitsell (123rd in 28:48.4) and Baker (137th in 29:58.8).

In the team's last meet, the Louisville Cross Country Classic, Massey led the men's squad by placing 45th overall in 24:41.0, while Holman topped the women with a 133rd-place overall finish in 18:43.5 in the 5K.

Brittian, Allen, Campbell, Fuller, Lunsford, Baskett, Hill, Corbin and Bauer also all ran at that meet. However, Bauer did not finish. Filippazzo has not run since the season-opening EKU Invitational, but she did not finish that race.

Whitsell, Thompson, West, Arnett, Richendollar, Glassco, Coleman, Blair, Parido, Hawkins, Baker, Lamb, Crady and Garner also all raced two weeks ago in Louisville. All but West ran in the previous meet, the EIU Walt Crawford Open. This will be West's second race of the year. The other 14 have either competed in two or three meets already this fall.
