MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Sophomore
Trey Myers posted personal bests in Smallbore and combined score to lead the Morehead State Rifle team to a weekend-opening win over UT Martin.
The Eagles topped the Skyhawks 4,678-4,639 for the program's 15th win in the last 16 shoulder-to-shoulder matchups with UTM. MSU's final score was its highest of the season, topping the 4,677 shot last weekend versus Akron in Indiana.
Myers shot a personal standard 585 (tying his prone [199] and standing [192] personal bests too) in Smallbore to lead all shooters and also fashioned a match-high 594 in Air Rifle for a personal record 1,179 total score. He also led all shooters with 75 center shots.
In Air Rifle, after Myers was senior
Hayden Bell with a 589. Sophomore
George Kuhne helped the cause with a 588, also carded by senior
Adrianna Beard with a 588. Sophomore
Chloe Shannon was the final Eagle in the lineup, scoring a 586. The Eagles' total was 2,359.
Smallbore saw Myers leading the way, but Beard (579), Shannon (578), Bell (577 [tied his standing PB at 193]) and Kuhne (575) all posted solid scorecards too as MSU finished at a season-best 2,319.
Among those shooting but not in the counters, freshman
Hannah Goin improved to a personal best 587 in Air Rifle and had her best-ever standing score in Smallbore at 191. Junior
Cooper Gray closed the day at 584 in Air. Junior
Maria Koenig fired 583 in Air.
The teams will line up again on Saturday for another match at Button Rifle Range, beginning at 8:15 a.m. ET.
