MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Mackenzie Federspiel, who helped Madison Central High School from Richmond, Ky., win the 2025 Kentucky State championship, has signed to play for the Morehead State Women's Golf Team.
Federspiel finished 11th at the state championship and the team shot a state record low score for the two-day event.
"I am very excited to be a Morehead State Eagle and to be a part of this team. All of the girls have been so welcoming and inviting," she said. "I am blessed to be able to continue my golf career. I am excited to experience new golf courses and strengthen my golf game. I can't wait to be a student-athlete and learn in this new academic setting. I am also excited to meet girls from different places and learn from them. I am thrilled for the opportunity to play for Coach (Stephanie) Barker, and I look forward to making memories on this team."
Barker has high praise for her newest Eagle as well.Â
"Mackenzie is a wonderful student-athlete from Kentucky who fits in quite well with our squad," she said. "In the recruiting process I was impressed with her ball-striking ability, as well as her competitive spirit. She was instrumental in helping her team win the Kentucky State Championship this year and has experienced a wide variety of success on a state and regional level. The team and I are thrilled Mackenzie and her family are joining our program, and we can't wait to see her flourish on and off the golf course as an Eagle."
In addition to high school team success, Federspiel placed in the top 10 for this year's USGA qualifier at Woodhaven Golf Course in Louisville. She also placed in the top 20 for the 46th Kentucky Girls Junior Amateur.
Averaging 74.0 her senior season, she is a two-time All-State selection.Â
Federspiel played in the AJGA Marathon Petroleum Preview at Findlay, in 2024, and finished in the top five. She played in a Golfweek Junior Tour Elite event at Gibson Bay (Kentucky) in May, where she finished in third place. Federspiel placed third in the Lexington Junior Championship in June of 2025 at Kearney Hills Golf Course.
In 2024, she shot her personal best at Juniper Hills Golf Course, during a high school event, firing a 68.
