Eagles Ready to Open OVC Tournament Against SIUE Sunday

Morehead, Ky.-- Morehead State Volleyball opens the Ohio Valley Conference tournament Sunday when they square off with SIUE on the Gardella Family Court in McAfee Arena in Charleston, Illinois. The match is slated to tip off at 11:00 a.m. ET.

The #2-seed Eagles finished the conference season in a tie with Eastern Illinois atop the standings at 15-3. EIU received the top seed and the right to host due to their 2-0 record against the Eagles this season.

Morehead State swept a pair of matches Tuesday and Wednesday this week over UT Martin. The Eagles' attack sizzled Wednesday, posting a .398 hitting percentage, led by M.E. Hargan who posted a career-high .576 attack efficiency with 19 kills on 33 swings with no errors. Amelia Nott sparkled as well, posting a season-high .583 hitting percentage with seven kills on 12 swings, also with no errors. Nott matched her career high with five service aces in the match.

The #7 seed Cougars come into the postseason having dropped a pair of matches earlier this week to Southeast Missouri.

NOTABLES
  • Morehead State is led by senior M.E. Hargan who was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year Saturday. Hargan led the OVC averaging 4.50 kills and 5.31 points per set. She slugged 441 kills this season, which ranks fifth in the MSU record book for kills in a season in the modern era.
  • Hargan will finish her Morehead State career in the top-10 in the MSU record book in multiple categories.
  • Junior setter Sydney Sennett was named to the All-OVC First Team. Sennett ranked second in the OVC averaging 11.14 assists per set running an Eagle attack that paced the OVC hitting .265 in conference play.
  • Sennett has handed out 970 assists this season, the 10th-highest total in program history in the modern era. Sennett's 1,903 career assists is 7th in the MSU record book.
  • MSU also led the OVC with 110 service aces in league play, averaging 1.9 aces per set. On the season, the Eagles tallied 178 aces, led by Amelia Nott with 39 and Hargan with 36. Nott matched her career-high with five aces in the season finale against UT Martin November 19. Nott ranked second in the OVC in league play with 26.
  • Nott has piled up 110 aces in her career at Morehead State, tied for 4th in program history in the modern era.
  • Nott was named to the All-OVC Second Team. She finished second in the OVC, hitting .365 in conference play. On the season, Nott is hitting .354, which, if it stands, would be the second-highest efficiency in program history in the modern era.
  • Junior outside hitter Hollan Everett was selected for the All-OVC Second Team. Everett finished the season second on the club with 295 kills, averaging 3.04 kills per set. Everett showed her versatility at the net as well with 58 total blocks. Her 20 block solos this season is the 10th-highest tally in MSU record book. Her 38 career block solos is good for a tie for 6th in program history in the modern era.
  • Sophomore Tinsley Brown finished with 27 service aces on the season, third-most on the club. She set her career high with five aces at Lindenwood October 10. Brown finished conference play with 22 aces, ranking fourth in the conference.
  • MSU led the OVC averaging 2.23 blocks per set. Morehead native Bailey Brashear finished ranked fourth in the OVC averaging 1.03 blocks per set. Brashear posted 91 total blocks on the season.
  • Junior Libero Courtney Fitzgerald led Morehead State with 404 digs this season. She set her career high with 26 digs at Little Rock November 1. In her career, she has 937 digs. That ranks 8th in the MSU record books for the modern era.
