MOREHEAD, Ky. --  Morehead State Men's basketball embarks on perhaps its toughest road trip of the year Friday when the Eagles face Wake Forest in the first of three straight Power 4 Conference foes. Tip-off at LJVM Coliseum is at 7 p.m. ET

The game will air on ACC+ and the Eagle Sports Radio Network. You can listen to Chuck Mraz and Drew Barnette on WIVY-96.3 FM (flagship station), on WMST 106.9 FM or on MSUEagles.com.

Despite being just about five hours away, Morehead State and Wake Forest have never met in men's basketball. However, Wake head coach Steve Forbes has coached against Morehead State, winning a pair of games in 2015-16 and 2016-17 at East Tennessee State over the Eagles.

The last time MSU won its road opener was 2019-20.

MSU won its season opener 89-84 over Midway (Ky.) Monday, while the Demon Deacons opened at home defeating American 88-74.

• Head Coach Jonathan Mattox enters his second season leading Morehead State's program. Mattox and staff led MSU to 15 wins in 2024-25. Mattox needs just one more win to have been part of 200 career wins as a college basketball staffer/assistant coach or head coach.

• Morehead State has a 110-57 overall record since 2020-21, or 64 percent success rate. That figure ranks No. 1 for winning percentage in the Ohio Valley Conference in that span. The program has had nine 20-win seasons since 2008-09.

• Morehead State ranks No. 1 among the 8 Division I teams in Kentucky in wins in the last five seasons with 110.

• Morehead State's 2025-26 roster features three returning players - George Marshall, Jr., Anouar Mellouk and Jace Winkleman - and 12 newcomers.

• The active roster features two North Carolina natives in Davion Cunningham (Charlotte) and Chase Dawson (Durham).

• Transfer guard Chase Dawson was the 2024-25 Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year at Mount Olive (N.C.). Dawson scored the third-most points in a single season in Mount Olive (N.C.) (Division II) history after racking up 642 points in 30 games played. He led the Conference Carolinas in points and field goals made (230) while coming in second with his 83 percent free throw accuracy. Dawson averaged 21.4 points per game and reached 20+ markers 18 times.

Jon Carroll was named Second-Team NJCAA Division II All-American last year and produced 18 double-doubles at North Central Missouri College. He opened his D1 career with a team-high 20 points Monday. Carroll made all seven of his FG attempts. He is the first Eagle since Treshaad Williams on Dec. 28, 2016, to go perfect from the field on a minimum of 7 attempts.

Jon Carroll (7-7), Anouar Mellouk (5-5) & Josiah LeGree (5-6) combined to hit 17-of-18 from the field Monday.

Josiah LeGree's eight assists in the home opener Monday night vs. Midway tied for the most assists in a home opener in the past 10 seasons, joining Drew Thelwell's eight on Nov. 23, 2023.

George Marshall, Jr. made 29 of his last 30 free throws to finish the 2024-25 season. He is a career .822 free throw shooter.

Anouar Mellouk registered 10 double-figure scoring games in his first season as an Eagle and started off right Monday when he scored 13. He is also the lone international player on the roster, hailing from Amsterdam, Netherlands.

• On Monday night against Midway, Morehead State finished shooting 61 percent for the night, marking the highest field goal efficiency for the program since hitting 67 percent at Eastern Kentucky in 2020.
