Eagles Battle No. 19 Notre Dame, Fall 97-48 in South Bend

Morehead, Ky.-- Morehead State struggled through a tough shooting night and relentless Irish pressure defense and fell to 19th-ranked Notre Dame 97-48 Thursday night in South Bend, Indiana.
 
Morehead State (4-6) turned the ball over 16 times in the first half leading to 19-2 Notre Dame advantage in points off turnovers. The Eagles shot just 27% from the floor as the Irish pressure defense harried MSU.
 
The Eagles were led by Kate Dike with 11 points. Marie Sepp added nine. Landon Forbes paced MSU with eight rebounds.
 
Notre Dame (7-2, 1,0 ACC) was led by junior guard Hannah Hidalgo with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Cassandre Prosper finished with 20 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Vanessa de Jesus finished with 16 points.
 
Notre Dame jumped out early with pressure defense and led the Eagles 20-8 after the first quarter. A MSU scoring drought of over eight minutes in the second quarter pushed the Eagles further behind, trailing 40-17 at the intermission.
 
Morehead State was able to better find the range in the final 10 minutes, hitting 47% from the floor, scoring 22 points in the final frame.
 
Morehead State returns to Johnson Arena Tuesday, when they open Ohio Valley Conference play hosting Little Rock. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET.

  • Notre Dame shot 47% from the floor, including 46% from three-point range. Morehead State finished shooting 32% from the field and 22% (6-27) from long range.
  • The Irish held a 45-35 advantage in rebounds.
  • The bigger Irish held a 42-22 advantage in points in the paint.
  • Both Irene Fernandez Pavesio and Circe Rubio Remolar hit three-pointers in the game. Every player that has played for the Eagles this season has hit at least one trey this season.
