Eagles Fall in a Wild One at Allen Field 20-17 to Ohio

Morehead, Ky. -- A significant breeze blowing out to right spells trouble for pitchers at Sonny Allen Field. Tuesday afternoon, Morehead State and Ohio combined for 37 runs and 35 hits, including 12 home runs, as the Eagles fell to the Bobcats 20-17 in a game that saw four lead changes

Ohio (4-11) sent 16 batters to the plate in a marathon top of the first inning, plating 11 runs. The Bobcats hit five home runs and three doubles in the frame.

Morehead State (6-9) got one run back in the bottom of the first and plated three in the second inning on a solo home run by Caden Sheridan and a two-run blast by third baseman Griffin Olson, the first of the season for both players.

The Eagles got a strong outing out of the bullpen from junior Ethan Davis. Coming in to get the final out of the first inning, he threw 4.2 scoreless innings scattering four hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

The Eagles added four runs in the third, highlighted by Aubrey Kearns' two-RBI double through the right side. MSU struck again in the fourth, loading the bases with two walks and a base hit to lead off the inning. Kearns provided another two-run single to right, and Griffin Olson provided a two-out single through the right side to score Kearns and tie the game at 11-11.

MSU took the lead in the sixth plating two runs to go up 13-11, but OU responded by hanging up a five-spot in the seventh to retake the lead 16-13.

The Eagle bats responded, posting four runs and retaking the lead 17-16, highlighted by Hayden Robbins' first home run of the season to lead off the inning, a long blast over the fence in the deepest part of the park.

Ohio came back with two runs in the eighth inning by third baseman Nick Dolan's two-run homer, his second of the game. The Bobcats went ahead for good on left fielder Brady Alexander's two-run shot, also his second home run of the game.

OU's Trey Barkman (1-1) picked up the win, while MSU's Hunter Porter (0-1) took the loss.

Morehead State returns to action for their final non-conference weekend as they travel to Carbondale, Ill., to face off against Southern Illinois in a three-game series. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
