Morehead, Ky.-- Morehead State starting pitcher
Ethan Davis allowed just one hit in five shutout innings of work and the MSU offense got a valuable late run to preserve a 4-3 win over Ohio University at Bob Wren Stadium Tuesday evening in Athens, Ohio.
Davis (2-2), making his second start of the season and his eighth appearance, allowed just one hit while walking one and striking out three Bobcat batters to get the win. MSU pitching scattered eight hits, walked five and struck out five.
Morehead State (10-15/ 1-5 OVC) cracked the scoring column in the third inning with an
Andy Cisneros solo home run over the fence in left field, his second clout of the season.
The Eagles put together another rally in the fifth. Cisneros singled sharply to right field with one out. Right fielder
Alex Kean drove him home with a two-out single to center field. Catcher
Caden Sheridan drove Kean home with a single into the right-center gap to put MSU ahead 3-0.
Ohio (7-20/ 3-9 MAC) got on the board in the eighth. Leadoff hitter shortstop Matt Ineich reached on a two-out walk and scored on a double down the right field line by second baseman Cam Bryant.
MSU responded with a crucial run in the top of the ninth. The Eagles got a leadoff double in the left field corner. After a ground out, first baseman
Hunter Thomas drove him home with a double to left to extend the lead to 4-1.
In the bottom of the ninth, OU threatened to send the game to extras, plating two runs after a leadoff walk and a home run by catcher Blake Reed to trim the lead to one run. Reliever
Josh Furtado (1) was able to get a strikeout to close out the game and preserve the win and post his first save of the season. Â
Ohio starter Hunter Winston (0-1) took the loss for Ohio.
Morehead State returns to Ohio Valley Conference with a weekend series at Southern Indiana. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
