MOREHEAD, Ky. -- With two Ohio Valley Conference tournament championships in the past three seasons and a continued commitment to developing all-around excellent within her program, Morehead State Women's Golf Head Coach
Stephanie Barker has earned a contract extension.
The extension will add a year onto her current contract. In addition to her coaching duties, Barker serves as assistant to the director of athletics for student-athlete development and wellness and provides a valuable role helping with mental health and student-athlete issues and initiatives.
Barker is the only head coach in the history of the current program, having been hired in 2007-08 to revive a program that had been defunct since the early 1980s. Under her guidance, MSU has claimed three OVC titles (2011, 2023, 2025), participated in three NCAA Regionals and had four individual student-athletes win medalist honors at the OVC Tournament.
"Coach
Stephanie Barker has consistently modeled excellence - on and off the course. Her success in competition is impressive, but it represents only a portion of the tremendous value she brings to Morehead State University and MSU Athletics," said Director of Athletics
Kelly Wells. "Her leadership, commitment to student-athlete development, and her dedication to our mission make a lasting impact on our department and campus community. We are thrilled to extend her contract and show our appreciation for her outstanding work. We look forward to her continued success and positive influence."
Barker has been honored as OVC Coach of the Year three times, including this past season when MSU won the conference championship by an unprecedented 29 strokes over Little Rock.
"Coaching this exceptional group of women is both an honor and a privilege," Barker said. Helping others has always been at the heart of my career aspirations, and I'm deeply committed to making a meaningful impact in their lives through the game of golf. Being able to continue this journey within such a supportive university and community is truly humbling, and I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity."
Morehead State's 888 total at the 2025 Lexington NCAA Regional set the OVC standard for best score at a regional by a conference team.
Barker has mentored six OVC Players of the Year, while Eagles have earned 65 all-conference or all-newcomer team accolades in her tenure. Morehead State has finished first or second in the league six times in her career as well.
