MOREHEAD, Ky. -- It was a record-setting performance for the Morehead State Rifle team Saturday at Jacksonville State as the Eagles set the Smallbore program record, and junior
Trey Myers tied the individual single-match Smallbore record.
MSU set the Smallbore standard with a 2,333, bettering the previous mark of 2,328 set last season versus North Georgia. The Eagles also totaled 2,362 in Air Rifle. It all added up to a near-record 4,695 team total, which is the second-best aggregate in program history. JSU finished at 4,677 on its home range. The Eagles upended the Gamecocks in Jacksonville, Ala., for the first time since 2022-23.
Myers tied former teammate
Adrianna Beard's Smallbore individual record of 590-36 centers (Beard set it on Feb. 10, 2024). Junior
Chloe Shannon added a 584 to the record, while freshman
Ysabelle Martinez turned in a 580. Senior
Corbin Jockers rounded out the record at 579, while freshman
James Wright was in the counters as well and fired a 574.
MSU's Air Rifle contingent was paced by Shannon with a 593. Martinez continued her torrid pace in her first season with a 592. Myers, who was the second-best aggregate scorer in the match at 1,179, fashioned a 589. Freshman
Lucy Evans scored a 588, and fellow freshman
Karis Junker's final targets added to a 580.
Other notable Air Rifle scores included Jockers and junior
George Kuhne at 581 and Wright at 580. JSU's Akos Marta nearly had a perfect Air Rifle score at 599.
MSU returns home to host the other OVC MSU, Murray State, next Saturday at Button Range.
