MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State Rifle had its best showing this year and one of its best scores in program history against Jacksonville State in Alabama earlier this season. The Eagles will get another shot at the Gamecocks this weekend when JSU visits Button Range Saturday.
In the previous meet-up this year on Oct. 10, the Eagles set the Smallbore program record, and junior
Trey Myers tied the individual single-match Smallbore record. MSU had the second highest aggregate in program history at 4,695.
Myers is the team leader in Air Rifle and Smallbore, plus combined. He is one of two Eagles averaging 590 or better in air, just edging teammate and classmate
Chloe Shannon. Myers averages 590.6, while Shannon is at 590.0. Myers paces all Eagle firing points in Smallbore at 582.1.
Three other talented freshman are putting a solid burst into MSU's Air Rifle efforts this year.
Ysabelle Martinez (589.5),
Lucy Evans (588.8) and
Karis Junker (588.0) all rank highly among the team and in the OVC.
JSU will be shooting in just its third match of the season, with losses to two MSU's - Morehead State and Murray State. The Gamecocks average 4674.5 as a unit.
Following this match, the Eagles will have three more competitions prior to the winter break as they'll travel to Memphis next weekend before ending the weekend versus UT Martin again - this time at Murray State's range.
