Eagle Baseball Kicks off 2026 with 3-Game Series Beginning Friday

Morehead State baseball opens its 2026 season with a three-game series against UMass Lowell this Friday through Sunday. Originally scheduled to be played at Allen Field at Prefontaine Park, the series venue has been shifted to George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester.
 
First pitch Friday is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET. The games Saturday and Sunday are slated for an 11:00 a.m. ET start. Live stats can be accessed at www.msueagles.com, on the baseball schedule page.
 
Sophomore right-hander Landon Waugh is projected to start the opener Friday. Waugh made 18 appearances last season with two starts. In 41 innings, he struck out 34 batters and walked 24.
 
Sophomore left-hander Kamden Hawks will start Saturday. He appeared in 14 games in 2025, making 10 starts. Hawks struck out 57 batters last season, ranking third in the OVC. He held opponents to a .245 batting average, ranking sixth in the league.
 
Freshman Connor Davis will get the nod in the series finale Sunday. A Cincinnati native, Davis was coached by MSU Baseball alum RJ Hayes at Reading High School. He was a First-Team All-Ohio Division 4 selection last season. He posted a 4-2 record posting a 2.33 ERA. In 39 innings pitched, he struck out 66 batters and posted a .744 WHIP.
 
NOTABLE
  • Morehead State hit .280 as a team last season, ranking fourth in the OVC.
  • MSU's 884 total bases were the second-most in the OVC in 2025. MSU's senior catcher Hunter Thomas led the OVC with 143.
  • Morehead State slugged 76 home runs, second in the conference, just behind SIUE with 77. Thomas tied for the conference lead with 19 round-trippers.
  • Sophomore catcher Caden Sheridan started 52 of the Eagles' 53 games last season. Sheridan played five defensive positions: catcher, first base, second base, right field and center field. He also was slotted in as the designated hitter in seven contests in 2025.
  • Sheridan was an OVC All-Freshman Team selection in 2025. He slashed .265/.410/.361. He led the Morehead State and ranked 10th in the OVC with 14 doubles. Behind the plate Sheridan threw out 12 base stealers, the fifth-most in the OVC.
  • Returning senior JJ Dutton led Morehead State with a .340 batting average in 2025, ranking eighth in the OVC. He raised his batting average 140 points from March 1 to the end of the season.
  • Dutton enters the 2026 season on a 31-game reached-base streak. Dutton led the Eagles with four triples last season, tied for the second-highest total in the OVC.
  • Redshirt junior left fielder Davis Germann hit .307 last season in 50 games with 10 home runs and 38 RBI and posted a .944 OPS.
  • Germann was second on the club with 12 stolen bases in 14 attempts.
  • Germann's 108 total bases was third on the team and ranked ninth in the conference last season.
  • Junior first baseman Alex Kean finished his sophomore season hitting .309 with 13 home runs (sixth in the OVC) and 38 runs batted in, posting a .994 OPS.  His 113 total bases ranked eighth in the OVC.
  • Kean's .582 Slugging percentage ranked seventh in the OVC last season.
  • Kean finished the season on a 15-game hit streak.
  • Senior third baseman Griffin Olson led MSU with 17 stolen bases in 20 attempts, ranking 10th in the OVC.
  • Olson smacked 11 home runs last season, ranking 10th in the OVC. His 46 runs batted in tied for ninth in the conference.
