Graham Johnson

Graham Johnson is in his sixth year as an assistant baseball coach at MSU and his fifth serving with Head Coach Mike McGuire.

Johnson serves as pitching coach, oversees field maintenance and the academic development of all student-athletes involved in the baseball program. He also assists a great deal with recruiting.

The pitchers have set numerous school and individual records in his time, including three straight seasons of setting a school team record for strikeouts. The 2016 staff set the school and Ohio Valley Conference record with 554 strikeouts. Individually, Matt Anderson established the single-season school record with 130 punchouts.

In 2016, three of the MSU pitchers (Matt Anderson, Tyler Keele and Patrick McGuff) were drafted by Major League teams.

Johnson helped guide the Eagles to the 2015 OVC Tournament Championship, while his pitching staff set a school record with 18 saves.

In his first season, he mentored two pitchers, Aaron Goe and Matt Duncan, to all-conference honors. Duncan led the OVC with a school-record 13 saves, and three relievers posted ERA's of less than 4.00.

He came to MSU from Western Illinois.

During his time at WIU, Johnson served as the outfield coach and assistant pitching coach. Prior to Western Illinois he served as a graduate assistant baseball coach at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo.

He held a variety of roles off the field while at LU, and on the field worked as assistant pitching/outfield coach during the 2008-09 campaign and was pitching coach for the 2009-10 season. He completed his Master’s of Education with an emphasis in strength and conditioning degree from LU in 2010.

In the summer of 2011, Johnson worked as a head baseball coach in the IMG World Premiere High School 18-Under Wood Bat League located in Bradenton, Fla. In the summer of 2010 he was a coach with the East Los Angeles Dodgers baseball program serving as an assistant coach and associate head coach for two different teams within the program.

Johnson played at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo. During his four-year playing career at C-SC, he helped the Wildcats capture two regular season conference championships, three conference tournament championships, three regional tournament appearances with one championship title and one super-regional appearance.

He also served as pitching coach during the 2007-08 season while completing his degree in secondary biology education from C-SC.

Johnson has been married to Victoria Johnson, Morehead State Athletic's Marketing Coordinator, since 2015.
