Bill Mayo was hired in June of 2010 to take the reigns of the National Champion MSU cheer program. He is the third full-time coach in program history.
Mayo oversees all aspects of the national champion Morehead State all-girl and co-ed cheerleading teams. He is also be responsible for oversight of the mascot program (Beaker) and will assist with the dance team and other spirit-related duties.
In his first season, Mayo guided the co-ed and all-girl teams to national titles and also helped an all-girl stunt team to a national title as well.
A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Mayo has been a member of several nationally prominent collegiate programs and coached many all-star teams. While completing his second master’s degree at Louisville, he helped the Cardinal cheer program to two top-two finishes, including their seventh straight national championship at the 2009 NCA Collegiate National Championships. Mayo also competed partner stunt for Louisville taking a second-place finish at both UCA and NCA partner stunt competitions and national championships.
In the 2010 NCA partner stunt competition, Mayo and his partner completed the first ever hand-to-hand full up to hand-to-hand. He also has two second place finishes at UCA Division I Nationals and one second place finish in the UCA Collegiate Partner Stunt Competition as a member of the University of Delaware’s cheer squad.
He has been coaching for six years, including two at GymTime All-Stars in Louisville where he was a cheerleading and tumbling instructor for senior level five and junior level four teams. Five of his squads at GymTyme All-Stars were national champions. He also cheered at GymTyme on their All-Star International level six team that was named the 2010 USASF World Champions. Also while at the 2010 USASF Worlds competition, Mayo coached his International All Girl level 5 team to their first World Championship.
Prior to GymTyme, he coached at Diamond Elite All-Stars in Newark, Del., as a tumbling instructor for senior level five and senior level four teams. Each team won a 2008 National Championship. He was a member of the inaugural Team USA Olympic team that won a gold medal in the 2009 International World Cup Competition.
