Jim Brown, who has 20+ years coaching in Kentucky, will enter his fourth season as women’s basketball assistant coach at Morehead State.
 
Brown is continuing his partnership with fourth-year Morehead State head coach Greg Todd. He served eight seasons as an assistant under Todd at Transylvania University.

In his third season on Todd's Morehead State staff, Brown helped guide the Eagles to a 21-10 (11-5 Ohio Valley Conference) record. MSU reached the 20-win plateau for the seventh time in school history, resulting in the program's first ever appearance in the Women's National Invitation Tournament. 2016-17 also featured a nine-game winning streak – the second-longest in school history – and the team's first invitation to a national postseason tournament since 2009-10.
 
Prior to his stint at Transylvania, Brown was at Somerset (Ky.) High School for 16 seasons, including three as the head coach of the girls varsity program and 13 as an assistant. He also served as the school’s softball coach from 1998-2003.
 
During his tenure at Transylvania, he helped the program to four Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) championships and three NCAA Division III Tournament appearances. The Pioneers were 157-64 in his eight seasons, including a 26-3 record in 2013-14 which established the school record for wins.
 
Brown mentored three HCAC Players of the Year and helped lead TU to 32 conference victories in his last two campaigns.
 
Brown also served as an assistant coach for a pair of teams in the Kentucky-Indiana All-Star Game and two Kentucky All-Star AAU teams that won state titles.

He received his first coaching job from current Danville (Ky.) girls' basketball head coach Judie Mason, who is also the all-time winningest coach in Somerset High School program history, and a member of the KHSAA Ring of Honor.
 
A 1977 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, he received a master’s degree from Coppin State in 2002.
 
He and his wife, Barbara, have one daughter (Gretchen), who played collegiate basketball at Transylvania.
