Dr. Darrin DeMoss

Dr. Darrin DeMoss, a professor of biology who has served at Morehead State for more than 20 years, is now serving as Faculty Athletics Representative.

The Faculty Athletics Representative serves a vital role as liaison between the athletic department and the faculty on campus. He will also be heavily involved in the processes of eligibility for student-athletes and ensuring coaches are compliant with current NCAA recruiting rules and standards. He will work closely with the academic staff at the EAGLE Center as well as the compliance staff.

DeMoss's teaching emphases include anatomy and physiology, the development of the biology area of concentration and the development of the biomedical science area of concentration. He has helped develop, implement or revise eight courses at Morehead State.

DeMoss has served on MSU's NCAA certification team, as well as serving as the chair of the compliance certification for reaffirmation in the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. He has also served on the St. Claire Regional Medical Center Institutional Review Board.

He has concentrated his academic research on "Age & Drug Related Changes in Skeletal Physiology" and the "Effects of Microgravity on Gliobastoma Cells."

DeMoss has authored six manuscripts and had more than 20 published abstracts. He also has more than 70 scientific oral/poster presentations to his name and has served on 22 thesis committees. DeMoss has mentored more than 30 undergraduate students on research projects.

He has served as an advisor to the Morehead State chapter of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and also the Pre-Physician Club.

DeMoss earned his bachelor's degree in biology from Morehead State in 1989 and received his master's degree in biology from MSU in 1991. He earned his doctorate in biomedical sciences from the Marshall University School of Medicine in 1996.

DeMoss has three daughters, Cara Perry (MSU graduate 2014), Bethany Wagoner (MSU graduate 2015) and Emilee. Emilee is a freshman member of the Morehead State soccer team.
