Freshman Gabriel Ruiz of the tennis team has been named this week’s Male Pepsi Student-Athlete of the Week.

Ruiz went 5-1 last week, including a perfect 3-0 doubles mark at No. 3 with partner Giovanni Samaha. The pair won 8-7 (9-7) in the Eastern Kentucky win, which clinched the doubles point.

He also won a three-set singles decision at No. 6 in the EKU victory and dominated his opponent from Murray State, 6-0, 6-1.

He is now 4-2 in OVC matches in his first collegiate season.
