MOREHEAD, Ky. - The Morehead State volleyball team used its bread and butter routine Friday night against visiting SIU Edwardsville. The Eagles totaled 10 team blocks - holding the Cougars to a .039 hitting percentage - and dropped in seven aces to lead to a 3-0 sweep (25-17, 25-14, 25-21).
MSU improved to 17-7 overall, while SIUE fell to 1-21.
MSU used an balanced offensive attack as freshman Ellie Roberson topped MSU with nine kills. Kaitlin Craven, Holly Evans, and Emma Keough had eight spikes, and Keough hit .467.
On defense, freshman Annie Gruenschlaeger netted six total blocks, including five assists. Her block assist total of 108 this year is already the fifth best number in school history. Roberson and Keough each tallied four blocks. Senior libero Kristina Schoo led all players with 17 digs. Junior setter Kirstie Brangers handed out a match best 34 assists as the Eagles held a 20-kill advantage (42-22) over the Cougars.
SIU Edwardsville was led by five kills from Sydney Winslow and 12 digs from Diane Schimdlin. The Eagles out-dug the Cougars, 52-41.
Morehead State hosts Austin Peay next week on Friday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.
