Volleyball Cruises Past Southeast Missouri, 3-0

MOREHEAD, Ky. - Freshman outside hitter Ellie Roberson tallied a career high 16 kills off a career best .406 hitting percentage, and junior Kaitlin Craven came up with a season high 21 digs Saturday as the Morehead State volleyball team defeated visiting Southeast Missouri 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-16). The Eagles improved to 12-5 overall and 5-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference, while SEMO dipped to 6-9 and 3-4 in the league.

As a team, MSU was rock solid in every category. The Eagles posted a .289 team attack percentage, had seven blocks, four aces, and held the Redhawks to a .044 attack effort. MSU also out-dug SEMO 64-40.

Roberson was set up 32 times in the contest, landing 16 in for kills while making just three attack blunders. Craven, meanwhile, picked up her team-best eighth double-double with 12 kills off a .296 hitting day.

Junior setter Kirstie Brangers handed out a match best 37 assists, while freshman Annie Gruenschlaeger led the team with four total blocks. Senior libero Kristina Schoo had 15 digs, moving her just 43 away from the 2,000-mark for her career.

Four players - Emily Hughes, Karleigh Delong, Amanda Rickoff, and Emily Maher - led SEMO in kills, but each was only able to notch five. Maher did come up with four blocks on defense as SEMO had six total team swats.

Morehead State started off by hitting .282 with 16 kills in the opening set, eventually holding off the Redhawks 25-21. In the second set, MSU reeled off a 14-4 run after the set was tied early at four each. The Eagles had 20 kills off a .333 hitting effort in the second frame.

The Eagles travel to Tennessee State on Tuesday, Oct. 6 for a 7 p.m. EDT matchup with the Tigers.
