Volleyball Eagles Overpower Tennessee Tech, 3-1

Morehead State's volleyball team just about doubled up visiting Tennessee Tech in every stats category Friday night as the Eagles overpowered the Golden Eagles 3-1 (18-25, 25-11, 25-15, 25-17) at Wetherby Gym. With the win, MSU moved to 19-9 overall and 11-5 in the OVC while TTU fell to 10-16 and 9-8 within the league.

The Eagles had 61 kills to Tech's 34, 57 assists to the Golden Eagles' 31, 13 blocks opposite six for Tech and 50 digs versus 31 for the visitors. After a slow start hitting only .097 in the first set loss, Morehead State tallied 48 kills and hit .441 the rest of the night. Tech, meanwhile, had 16 attack errors the rest of the way while hitting just .090.

MSU had four players reach double figures in the kill column. Freshman Annie Gruenschlaeger led the way with 14 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Redshirt sophomore Emma Keough totaled 12 kills off a .588 hitting percentage and a team high nine total blocks. Freshman Ellie Roberson also tallied 12 kills, and junior Kaitlin Craven had 11 kills.

On defense, senior libero Kristina Schoo led all players with 14 digs. Junior setter Kirstie Brangers notched her 13th double-double of the year with 52 assists and 12 digs.

Tennessee Tech was topped by Amanda Lindgren with 12 kills. Kelsey Gray had six kills, a .417 hitting percentage and three blocks.

For the match, the Eagles finished with a .314 attack effort. MSU also helped its own cause with eight aces.

MSU hosts Jacksonville State on Saturday at 5 p.m. for senior day.
