Softball Eagles Finish 2009 Season in the Top 100 in RPI Rankings

MOREHEAD, Ky. - The Morehead State softball program, under head coach Holly Bruder, finished the 2009 season in the top 100 of the NCAA Division I RPI rankings. The rankings take into account several factors, including strength of schedule, success on the road, success against teams ranked higher in the RBI, and conference finish.

The Eagles finished 90th in the adjusted RPI rankings out of 284 Division I teams.

"I'm ecstatic," said Bruder. "I think this is a compliment to the players, the coaching staff, Morehead State athletics and Morehead State University what we have been able to accomplish. I feel we're off to a great two-year start, and it speaks volumes that these players are now able to compete against and to win against the nation's top programs.

"This is only a start. I am working extremely hard to ensure we maintain this level of success and even strive for a higher RPI next season and beyond."

MSU concluded the year at 35-20 overall, setting the school single season record for wins. The Eagles finished ahead of such nationally prominent programs as Virginia (Atlantic Coast Conference), Louisiana Tech (Western Athletic Conference), Charlotte (Atlantic 10), Miami (Mid-American) and Chattanooga (Southern).

Overall the Ohio Valley Conference finished 14th out of 31 conferences ranked in the RPI polls.
