MURRAY, Ky.--Morehead State volleyball opened Ohio Valley Conference play with a 3-1 win over Murray State Friday evening at Racer Arena. The Eagles won 25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, sparked by three players with double-digit kills.
Kaitlin Craven recorded another double-double, leading Morehead with 18 kills while also tallying 11 digs.
Emma Keough hit .312 on the way to a 15-kill performance. She was also stellar in her net defense, registering a team-high seven blocks.
Aryn Bohannon added 10 kills.
The Racers (0-10, 0-1 OVC) kept the first set tight early, but Morehead broke a 16-all tie and pulled ahead by two, a lead that eventually became the final margin. The Eagles had to pull ahead in set two also, but did so earlier, snapping a seven-all tie with three unanswered points.
Murray won set three by scoring early and holding that lead throughout the game, never allowing the Eagles to tie or take the lead.
Morehead State overcame a 13-11 deficit in set four with a 6-2 run to tie the score at 16. After Murray pulled ahead again and the Eagles closed it back up and tied the game at 21. After trading the next four points, Morehead scored twice to secure the conference victory.
Kristina Schoo led the Morehead defense with 17 digs while
Kirstie Brangers equaled Craven with 11 digs. Brangers also had 42 assists on the offensive side.
The Racers' Becca Lamb had a match-high 21 kills, hitting .326. Ashley Nenninger had a 12-kill, 11 dig double-double.
Morehead State will play at OVC foe UT-Martin Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
