MOREHEAD, Ky. - With a two-match lead in the Ohio Valley Conference standings and riding a six-match, 15-set winning streak, the Morehead State volleyball team hits the road for a pair of matches in Tennessee this weekend.
The Eagles will battle Austin Peay for the first time this season on Friday night at 7 p.m. EST in the Dunn Center. On Saturday, MSU will make the short trek down to Nashville to face Tennessee State in Kean Hall at 3 p.m. EST. MSU already defeated TSU 3-0 last week.
MSU (14-6/8-0 OVC) enters the weekend looking to keep a couple of streaks alive. The Eagles have not lost a match since facing Cincinnati on Sept. 21 and since then they have only lost two of the 20 sets they've played. MSU has not lost a set now since the first one at SEMO in a 3-1 win on Sept. 25. The Eagles have won four consecutive 3-0 decisions, all at home. Eight of those sets have resulted in the opponent not reaching 20 points.
Senior setter
Kirstie Brangers has lead the team to one of the best offenses in the league. She hands out 10.6 assists per match and also has 159 digs and 24 blocks. Senior right side attacker
Holly Evans is having an incredible year. She leads the OVC with a .352 hititng average and slams down 2.8 kills per set while also accumulating 59 blocks. On offense, the Eagles' leader has been senior
Kaitlin Craven who averages 2.9 kills per set and has a team high 596 total attacks this season.
Austin Peay enters the match with the OVC's best overall record at 15-4. After an 11-1 start though, the Lady Govs are 4-3 in the last three weeks. APSU has a 6-2 OVC record, two matches behind MSU. Nikki Doyle and Ilyanna Herndandez both average more than 3.0 kills per set as APSU ranks second in the league in overall kills per set as a team, right behind MSU. The Lady Govs do lead the OVC in assists, aces and hitting percentage.
Tennessee State (5-10/3-4 OVC) has only played one other match since facing the Eagles last Tuesday night in Morehead - a 3-2 loss at home to Austin Peay. Santia Sanders paces the Tiger offense with 2.3 kills per set.
