MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The 2010-2011 Morehead State men’s basketball season officially got under way on Friday afternoon. Coach Donnie Tyndall, his staff, and his squad of 14 players participated in their first full team practice of the season in Johnson Arena.
Tyndall, entering his fifth season at the helm of the Eagle basketball program, was very excited to get practice underway after a record-breaking 24-11 season last year.
“We are very excited to get the season started, we had an excellent preseason, and our guys worked hard on getting their bodies right and in condition,” said Tyndall. “We have a tough schedule that we look forward to playing and we expect to have an exciting season of basketball ahead.”
The Eagles return just five players who saw court time last year, but leading that group is reigning OVC Player of the Year and OVC Defensive Player of the Year Kenneth Faried. Faried, who averaged 16.3 points per game and 13 caroms per contest last season, has been receiving
numerous national preseason honors attention.
Also returning this year is guard Demonte Harper, guard Terrance Hill, point guard Ty Proffitt, and guard Sam Goodman. Harper was third on the team in scoring with 11.9 points per game, while Hill was fourth at 7.9 points per game. Proffitt and Goodman will both push for starting roles this season.
The Eagles will get the services of 6’7”-235 pound forward Drew Kelly, who is a transfer from Miami University. He will add depth and size inside. Newcomers looking to battle for a spot in the lineup include Romaric Lasme and Reggie Williams, who have both looked very solid in preseason drills. Other newcomers to the team this year include forward/center Shannon Williams, guard Kevin Gray, point guard Lamont Austin, guard Taylor Maze, forward Dionte Ferguson, and forward Arthur McMillian.
The new coaching staff this year includes Wade O’Connor, Joseph Price, Adam Howard, and graduate manager Maze Stallworth.
