Jonsson Wins Again; Eagles Take Second at Tribe Invitational by Just One Stroke

Final Results

MONTPELIER, Va. -
After being tied for the lead following the first round Monday, Morehead State junior golfer Emma Jonsson fired a 73 on Tuesday to claim medalist honors at The Tribe Invitational, played at the 5,282-yard, par 71 Hollows Golf Course. Jonsson's victory was her second medalist honor of the Fall season and her third top 10 finish.

The Eagles fired a 303 team total in Tuesday's final 18-hole round, and that tied Western Carolina for team low honors, but the Catamounts entered the day with a one-stroke lead and just barely clipped MSU for the team title. WCU had a 598 two-day total, while MSU carded a 599. Those were the only teams to break 600 as Wofford finished a distant third with a 614. The College of William and Mary hosted the 11-team event.

Jonsson, who also won the Murray State Drake Creek Invitataional, finished with a 70-73-143 to win by three strokes over WCU's Malin Jansson. Ironically both players call Sweden their home country.

For the Eagles, senior Paige Lausier finished tied for seventh overall with a 74-77-151. Sophomore Marisa Kamelgarn rebounded on Tuesday to shoot par and had a tournament total of 81-71-152 to tie for 11th.

Freshman Sofia Petterson finished 26th with a 77-82-159, and senior Lynn Grunkemeyer concluded MSU's five-player lineup with a 75-86-161 to tie for 29th.

Emma Eksell played as an individual and tied for 31st with an 85-77-162.

The Eagles have one more Fall event. They'll tee it up at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate at the Kiawah Island (S.C.) Resort on Oct. 25-26.
