Harper, Faried Dominant In Win At SIU Edwardsville

EDWARSDVILLE, Ill.—
Demonte Harper had a career-high 35 points and Kenneth Faried had a 20-20 game to lead Morehead State men’s basketball to an 83-64 non-conference win Sunday afternoon over SIU Edwardsville at the Vadalabene Center.

Harper scored 23 second-half points, including a stretch where he tallied 10 points by himself to counter 10 points from the Cougars. He was 12-of-20 from the field and 7-of-9 at the line. He also had four steals. His 35 points put him over 1000 for his career.

Faried scored 25 points and had 20 rebounds, the second time in three games he’s tallied 18 or more rebounds. The 20 rebounds also set a facility record at the Vadalabene Center. Ty Proffitt had a career-high eight assists.

MSU shot 51.9 percent in the game, including a blistering 65 percent in the second half. Leading by six at halftime, the Eagles broke the game open with a 10-0 run midway through the second half. Harper scored six of the 10. MSU pushed the lead as high as 21 through the remainder of the second half before setting the final margin at 19.

The win snapped a three-game skid for the Eagles, who improved to 3-3. SIU Edwardsville fell to 1-6. SIU-E is in the reclassification process to Division I, and will begin regular season competition in the OVC during the 2011-12 academic year. The Cougars will be eligible for postseason competition in 2012-13.

Morehead State will begin OVC play Thursday at home against UT Martin. Tip time in Johnson Arena will be 7:45 p.m., immediately following the MSU women’s basketball game, which tips off at 5:15 p.m.
