MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Morehead State men’s tennis team battled the Knights of Bellarmine University and came out victorious with a 7-0 win Thursday afternoon at the Wellness Center Indoor Courts. With the win the Eagles improved their record to 4-2.
"The guys answered our challenge and played a pretty solid match," said Assistant Coach Damar Johnson. "We are not where we want to be yet, but we are getting better with every match."
Morehead State swept all of the doubles matches, to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles action. The Eagles duo at the one of
Greg Anderson and
Jerry Sundgren won 9-8 (5) over the Knights pair of Nate Matthews and Jacob Knagenhjelm. At number two
Lovell Medcalf and
Bradley Bryan defeated Tyler Worley and Paul Clark 9-8 (12-10). The “Nathans” duo of
Nathan Blum and
Nathan Martin knocked off Todd Atcher and Carols Antonioli 8-3.
In singles action Anderson bested Matthews 6-0, 6-2 at number one and at number two Bryan won 6-4, 6-2 over Clark.
At number three Sundgren prevailed over Knagenhjelm 6-0, 6-2 and Martin was victorious 6-2, 6-4 over Worley at number four.
Dusan Milovanovic beat Atcher 6-3, 6-2 at number five and at number six Medcalf beat Antonioli 6-2, 6-4.
The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday Feb. 27 against West Virginia Wesleyan at 2 p.m. at the Wellness Center Indoor Courts.
