Men's Basketball Closes Out Regular Season Saturday Versus Skyhawks

MOREHEAD, Ky.--
Morehead State men’s basketball will play its regular season finale Saturday night when it hosts the visiting UT Martin Skyhawks at Johnson Arena at 7:30 p.m. The game will be a “White Out” game sponsored by St. Claire Regional Medical Center.

Morehead State 20-9 (14-3) enters the game with 20 wins, the first time in school history that the Eagles have had back-to-back 20-win seasons. The Eagles also set a school record for the most OVC wins in a season with 14.

The Eagles are coming off a streak-snapping win over Murray State having the Racer’s 17-game win streak.Morehead has won 16-of-19 and have a 17 game OVC home win streak. Kenneth Faried continues to lead the Eagles in points (16.9 ppg) and leads the nation in rebounds per game (13.2 rpg).

Last time out Kenneth recorded his 21st double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Steve Peterson scored a team high 16 points against Murray State and has improved his scoring average on the season to 8.2 points per game. Peterson has now scored in double figures in five of his last seven games. Morehead State has jumped its three-point percentage to 37.2 percent which is third in the OVC, thanks largely to its 10-15 (66.7 percent) shooting from beyond the arc against Murray State.

Morehead State opened conference play at UT Martin with a win, 74-66. Last year the Eagles won two out of three, splitting in the regular season games, and earning a victory against top-seeded UT Martin in the OVC Tournament semifinals. The Eagles have won five out of the last six against the Skyhawks.

UT Martin 4-24 (1-16) is coming off an 84-60 loss at Eastern Kentucky Thursday, its fifth consecutive loss and eighth of their last nine. UT Martin has four players who average double digits in scoring, lead by Marquis Weddle at 15.5 points per game. Benzor Simmons leads the team in rebounds, grabbing 5.3 caroms per game. The Skyhawks are third in the OVC in rebounding at 36.0 boards per game.

Saturday will also be the final regular season home game for Les Simmons, Brandon Shingles and Maze Stallworth, the three Eagle seniors.

The Eagles will be in action in Johnson Arena again on Tuesday March 2 as they will host an opening round OVC tournament game. The game is scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m.
