Tennis Sweeps Ohio Valley Conference Weekly Honors

MOREHEAD, Ky. - The Morehead State tennis programs captured both of the weekly Ohio Valley Conference honors as announced on Wednesday. Sophomore Alix Young won the Female Athlete of the Week, while redshirt senior Greg Anderson was named Male Athlete of the Week.

"Alix and Greg are two of the best players in this conference, and its nice to see them recognized for their hard work, not only last week, but for the season as well. Both of these players are deserving of this award, and I feel both of them have a great chance to be all-conference players and contend for player of the year also," said head coach Kevin Fulton.

Young was 8-2 in singles and doubles last week, helping the Eagles start 2-0 in OVC play as well. She played at numbers two and three singles, defeating opponents from Hartford, Fairleigh Dickinson, Murray State and Tennessee State in straight sets. She teamed with doubles partner Alexandra Rydberg to go 4-1, including winning 8-3, 8-2, 8-0 and 8-1 last week.

Anderson picked up singles and doubles wins in three matches last week, defeating the number one singles players from Hartford, Tennessee State and Murray State. He also partnered with Jerry Sundgren to go 3-0 in doubles action.
