Faried Named AP All-America Honorable Mention

MOREHEAD, Ky.—Morehead State junior men’s basketball center Kenneth Faried has been named Associated Press All-American honorable mention it was announced Monday.

It’s the third time the junior standout has been honored this postseason. He also was named NABC All-District and he swept the Ohio Valley Conference top awards, earning Player of the Year, Defensive player of the Year, First Team All-Conference and All-District.

"I am so proud of Kenneth," said MSU coach Donnie Tyndall. "His work ethic, passion to play, great leadership and most importantly his unselfishness have truly paid off for him. He has been a great role model for the younger players in our program. Our coaches and all of his teammates could not be happier for Kenneth and this great accomplishment."

Faried had an extraordinary year, averaging 16.9 points a game, while hauling in 13.0 boards per contest to lead the OVC and rank second in the nation. He also ranked second nationally in double-doubles, recording 25 double-dips in 35 total games. That included 10 games with 20 or more points. He was named OVC Player of the Week five times during the 2009-10 season.

Faried helped lead the Eagles to their second best record in school history at 24-11 and the best OVC mark at 15-3. MSU earned a bid to the College Basketball Invitational losing in the second round in overtime at Boston University. It was the Eagles second consecutive postseason appearance.
