Men's Netters Fall At Southern Illinois 5-2

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Morehead State men’s tennis team came up short against Southern Illinois, 5-2, in non-conference action Friday afternoon.

The Eagles started off behind 1-0 after, the Saluki’s managed to sweep the doubles matches. At the number one spot Greg Anderson and Jerry Sundgren battled tough, but ultimately came up short 8-6. Bradley Bryan and Lovell Metcalf fell 8-4 at the number two spot and the Eagle twosome of Nathan Martin and Nathan Blum were downed 8-4.

In singles play the Eagles got wins at number one and number three. Anderson took care of Brandon Florez of SIU 6-2, 6-0 and Sundgren was triumphant 6-3, 7-5 over Chikara Kidera. The Saluki’s were able to beat the Eagles the rest of the way. Bryan fought hard in the two spot but was defeated 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 and at the number four spot Martin fell 6-2, 6-0. Dusan Milovanovic at number five came up short in a clash with SIU’s Orhan Spahic 6-2, 2-6, 7-6. In the sixth spot Blum lost 6-0, 6-4 to Anton Leonenko.

The Eagles are in action Sat. March 6 at 4:00 p.m. at the University of Indiana.
