MOREHEAD, Ky. -
The Morehead State softball team will begin its quest to bring home an Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championship this week when the third-seeded Eagles face the sixth seeded Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles on Thursday in the tournament's first game at Noon EST at UT Martin's Bettye Giles Field.

All of Morehead State's games in the tournament will be broadcast live on the Eagle Sports Network on Morehead State Public Radio. MSPR incudes 90.3 FM WMKY in Morehead, 88.3 FM WOCS in Lerose/Boonville and translator W2O2BH in Inez. Games will also be available via MSPR's live stream and via www.msueagles.com.

MSU heads into the tournament having finished in the top three in the league regular season race for the third consecutive season. If the Eagles defeat Tech in the first round they will move into the second round where they'll face second-seeded Jacksonville State on Thursday at 5 p.m. EST. The loser of the MSU/TTU game falls into the loser's bracket and will play again on Friday at 2:30 p.m. EST.

Last season, the Eagles were also the third seed and defeated sixth seed EIU 6-0 in the opening game. However, Southeast MIssouri knocked off MSU 1-0 later in the day, and then UT Martin eliminated the Eagles with a 5-0 defeat on Friday morning.

In 2008, the Eagles earned the number two seed and a first round bye. Having the first game off didn't prove to be helpful though as Samford upset the Eagles in the second round. MSU stayed alive by defeating EIU before falling to Tech to bow out of the field.

Before head coach Holly Bruder's first year in 2008, the Eagles had not qialified for the tournament since 2000.

Morehead State went 1-2 against Tennessee Tech this year at home. The Eagles won the opener but fell in both games Sunday as the second game was suspended in the second inning on Saturday. The Eagles also went 1-2 at home Jacksonville State. The Eagles swept fourth seed Eastern Illinois, were swept by top seed UT Martin and had their series at fifth seed Murray State cancelled.
