Kentucky Male Athlete of the Year Aaron Watts Set to Join Eagle Baseball Team

MOREHEAD, Ky.— A three-sport star and the Kentucky Male Athlete of the Year, Aaron Watts, has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his baseball career at Morehead State. Watts, from McCreary County Central High School, is slated to primarily play outfield and also pitch for coach Jay Sorg’s Eagles, and Sorg is elated that Watts selected Morehead State over many other collegiate opportunities.

“Aaron is a great fit for our program. He is strong, loose and athletic, all the physical qualities you look for in a baseball player. He has an intense makeup which will be a nice addition to our club,” said Sorg. “Aaron had Division I scholarship offers in baseball, football and basketball. He understands that baseball gives him the best chance to play at the next level. We are excited to be a part of his future development.”

Watts, who was named All-State in baseball, football and basketball, was tabbed as the Kentucky Farm Bureau High School Male Athlete of the Year.

On the diamond, he was named 12th Region Player of the Year as he led the Raiders in batting average (.513), on-base percentage (.644), slugging percentage (.842), runs (37), hits (39), RBI (26), stolen bases (30), and fielding percentage (.947). He also topped the team’s pitching staff in strikeouts with 102. Watts pitched in the Kentucky East/West All-Star game this year.

On the gridiron, the dual-position standout was named First-Team All-State and Class 4A Player of the Year while rushing for 1,101 yards and throwing for 505 yards. He scored 20 touchdowns.

On the basketball court, Watts was named to the Louisville Courier-Journal All-State team as led the 12th region in scoring for the second consecutive season, averaging 23 points per outing. He also tallied eight rebounds and four assists per game. He scored more than 3,000 career points and played in the 2010 Kentucky/Indiana and Kentucky East/West All-Star games.

Sorg is expected to announce several more additions to the 2011 roster soon.
