CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Morehead State women's golf built on their second round improvements Tuesday, and finished strong in the final round of the Cincinnati Fall Classic.
The Eagles posted a final round, and tournament best, 308 at the Elks Run Golf Club to bring their tournament total to a solid 939. The final score placed the Eagles seventh out of the fifteen teams that competed in this year's tournament.
Continuing her impressive streak of play, junior
Emma Jonsson led the Eagles with a final round 74, bringing her tournament line to 79-72-74-225, and placing her tied for sixth overall. While last years tournament winner, Eagle sophomore
Marisa Kamelgarn held her own with a final round 78.
Senior
Paige Lausier continued her weekly consistency with her third +7 (79) of the tournament, while Eagle freshmen
Amalie Munck and Sofia Peterson both improved four strokes in their final rounds, posting tournament totals of 242 and 254 respectively.
Playing as an individual, junior
Emma Eksell finished fourth among the 10 individuals with a final round score of 85, concluding her tournament three-day score of 81-82-85-248.
Conference rival Murray State edged out the Eagles in final standings, finishing just two strokes ahead of the Eagles.
The classic was won by Florida International, which posted a final round 287, led by Katie Mundy's one-under-par 71. FIU was also represented well in individuals, with Monica Miller taking first (241), followed by teammate Yolecci Jimenez (244).
The Eagle women's team will be back on the course Oct. 11, when they head to Huntington, W. Va., for the 2010 Lady Herd Classic. Tournament details are to be announced.
