CHARLESTON, Ill. - Morehead State women’s basketball will look to sweep the SEMO-EIU road trip Saturday as they face the league-favorite Eastern Illinois Panthers at Lantz Arena at 5:00 p.m. EST.
The Eagles, picked second behind EIU, enter the contest at 12-5 overall (the most wins of any OVC team) and 5-2 in the OVC, while EIU sits at 9-7 and 5-1 in the conference. EIU’s lone loss came at the hands of Tennessee Tech on the road, which is also 5-1 in OVC games.
Morehead State will be striving to halt a six-game losing streak to the Panthers. The Eagles’ last victory against EIU was in Morehead in 2006-07, and MSU hasn’t won in Charleston since early in the 2006-07 year as well.
The Eagles are coming off an 85-69 victory at Southeast Missouri Thursday. A close game until the middle of the second half, MSU got a shot in the arm from freshman Allie Turner who nailed six second half three-pointers and finished with a career high 24 points, all scored after halftime. Linda Dixon also recorded her first career double-double, and Ashar Harris had a double-double by the half, finally finishing with a team-high 18 rebounds to go along with 20 points.
EIU is led by all-OVC performer Ta’Kenya Nixon. The sophomore guard is averaging 15.1 points and 6.3 rebounds and also has 77 assists.
MSU will step out of OVC play next as they host SIU Edwardsville on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
