CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Aryn Bohannon tallied a career-high 26 kills, completed a double-double with 10 digs, and hit .389 as the Morehead State volleyball team fought off a pesky Southeast Missouri team to win 3-1 (25-20, 28-30, 30-28, 25-16) at Houck Fieldhouse Saturday.
The Eagles won their 11th consecuttive match to improve to a perfect 11-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference, while the Redhawks fell to 9-13 and 7-4 in the league.
The Eagles also got 17 kills from junior outside hitter Ellie Roberson, 11 from redshirt freshman Laura McDermott and 10 via the hands of redshirt senior Emma Keough.
"SEMO is a great team, and they really pushed us to the limit," said MSU head coach Jaime Gordon. "What I thought was great for us today was that even though Ellie and Emma started a little slow, Aryn picked us up by elevating her offensive game, and that helped open things for Ellie and Emma and Laura to give us some great points later in the match. I also thought that (freshman) Alex (Fuelling) gave us some key points today. We've been putting her in during some clutch situation and she has been delivering."
Defensively, the Eagles got a match-high 28 digs from sophomore libero Leslie Schellhaas, while junior setter Caitlin Clark handed out 64 assists and put up another double-double with 11 digs. Senior Liz Schuler also helped MSU win the back row battle, 75-60, by scooping 13 Redhawk attacks. Fuelling had just three kill,s but they all came at key moments.
SEMO was led by Emily Coon with 16 kills and seven blocks, while Colleen Yarber tallied 14 kills and three blocks. The Redhawks were tough at the net, notching 12 team rejections.
The Eagles finished the match with 73 kills and hit .249. After a slow start, MSU landed 40 winners and made just 12 errors in the third and fourth sets. Meanwhile, the Eagles held SEMO to a .188 attack efficiency, including just a .119 mark in the final set.
MSU next plays at second-place UT Martin on Friday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. ET.
