MARTIN, Tenn. -- Ellie Roberson had a match-high 23 kills, Emma Keough came up with seven blocks, and Leslie Schellhaas totaled 24 digs as the Morehead State volleyball team rallied to defeat host UT Martin 3-1 (19-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-19) Friday night at Skyhawk Arena.
The Eagles won their 12th consecutive match to improve to 17-5 overall and 12-0 in the OVC as they moved another match ahead of the second place Skyhawks (14-9/9-4 OVC) in the league standings. MSU has also now won 29 of its last 30 OVC matches.
UT Martin entered the match leading the conference in blocks and digs, but the Eagles gave the hosts a dose of their own game. MSU out-dug UTM 77-58 and tallied 11 team blocks to the Skyhawks' seven. Besides Schellhaas' 24 ups, junior setter Caitlin Clark had a double-double with 15 digs and 47 assists, and sophomore Lindsey Roth notched 12 scoops. On the other side of the net, UTM libero Kasey Elswick, who tops the conference in digs, had 25.
At the net for MSU, Keough had seven block assists, leaving her now just 18 short of the school career record of 350. Junior Annie Gruenschlaeger also chipped in with six total blocks, and redshirt freshman Laura McDermot had four rejections.
Roberson, the OVC's leader in kills, landed 23 winners off 55 swings and made just six mistakes for a .309 attack efficiency. Redshirt sophomore Aryn Bohannon had 13 kills, and Keough totaled 10 while hitting .333. Gruenschlaeger, who leads the OVC in hitting percentage against other league foes, hit at a .353 clip tonight.
UTM got a team-high 11 spikes each from Ashley Doherty and Kelly Hogan.
The Skyhawks started strong in a opening set victory. They smashed 13 kills and made only two errors while the Eagles misfired on eight attempts. But, MSU turned up the defense in the subsequent sets. Set two saw the Skyhawks commit 10 attack errors with just six kills, and set four saw the Eagles finish strong with 19 kills and a .372 hitting effort.
Morehead State travels to Austin Peay on Tuesday, Oct. 25 for a 7 p.m. ET match against the Lady Govs.
