MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Junior Annie Gruenschlaeger knocked down 11 kills and hit .364, and the Morehead State volleyball team set the Ohio Valley Conference record for league victories by closing the regular season with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-18) sweep at Tennessee Tech Saturday at TTU's Eblen Center.
MSU closed the OVC schedule at 19-1, besting the previous league record of 18 wins by Southeast Missouri. The Eagles also upped their overall mark to 24-6 and finished the OVC schedule 10-0 on the road.
In the last two seasons now, the Eagles are 36-2 in OVC matches.
Along with Gruenschlaeger's team-high, redshirt freshman Laura McDermott and redshirt sophomore Aryn Bohannon tallied 10 kills apiece and McDermott hit .300.
The Eagles out-dug the Golden Eagles 55-34 as sophomore libero Leslie Schellhaas led the back row with 21 digs. MSU also topped TTU in kills (48-23), hitting percentage (.239-.103) and aces (7-1).
Tennessee Tech was led by Natalie Penrod with nine kills. Kelsey Gray tallied seven block, including five solo stuffs.
Morehead State turns its attention now to hosting the OVC Tournament this week. The action begins with first round matches on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Wetherby Gym. MSU garnered the top seed and a bye into the semifinals, and the Eagles' first match will take place on Friday at 7 p.m., following the first match at 4:30 p.m. ET.
