LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men’s basketball used a 14-7 run to close out Sunday afternoon’s game and record a 54-50 victory over Morehead State in the final game of the TicketCity Legends Classic at Sojka Pavilion.
The Bison improves to 5-2 overall with its fifth straight win, while the Eagles drop to 3-4 on the year.
Bucknell junior Bryson Johnson scored a game-high 20 points on 6-of-12 from the three-point line.
Sophomore Cameron Ayers added 15 points on 3-of-6 from long distance for the Bison, while junior Mike Muscala contributed 13 points on 8-of-10 from the free-throw line.
Senior Ty Proffitt led Morehead State with a season-best 14 points on 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, while sophomore Drew Kelly added nine points and senior Terrance Hill contributed eight.
Junior Kahlil Owens pulled down a career-best eight rebounds in his third start for MSU, while Kelly led the squad in assists with three.
Ayers nailed a three with 1:46 remaining in the second half to give Bucknell a 48-45 advantage. The Bison never trailed from that point forward.
Morehead State’s biggest lead of the afternoon -- 34-24 -- came at the 18:14 mark of the second half, but it connected on just 29 percent (8-of-28) of its shots after halftime to let the lead slip away.
Bucknell used a 38-26 rebounding advantage to overcome just 33 percent (15-for-46) field-goal shooting. MSU knocked down 46 percent (10-of-22) from the floor in the first half, but finished at just 36 percent (18-of-50) for the game.
Morehead State wraps up its five-game road trip on Thursday when it travels to Kent State for a 7 p.m. ET contest. The Eagles return to Johnson Arena on Sunday when they face NAIA opponent Mid-Continent (Ky.) at 4 p.m.
